Here's the link with the information for the Taos Is Art Banner competition 2019, everything you need to know is here:
http://taosartscouncil.org/town-of-taos-banner-competition
That I was a selected artist for 2018 was an honor.
Scroll through the images below to get a sense of what works and what did not.
Think graphically, what will stand out best in an image that WILL BE CROPPED to fit the narrow vertical format.
YOU DO NOT NEED to crop the image yourself, but beware that it will be cropped with the best intentions to show off the primary sense of your artwork.
The banners of 2018 are numbered in the photos below, they are shown from the north end of Taos to the south. Which ones work best to you?
Graphically, not necessarily your favorite artists.
Then decide which piece of your own work would also work best.
Thanks for helping to beautify Taos once again.
At this point I am not involved with this project, please ask questions of the Taos Arts Council board members or the Taos Gallery Association board members. Please Note: I am not a part of either board. This blog is meant to help and to share with you proper information. I am not paid nor a part of the decision process. In other words, please don't blame the messenger!

Taos, New Mexico has been considered an art colony destination for over 100 years. Today artists, patrons and art lovers still converge in this unique mountain village tucked into the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range of Northern New Mexico. Throughout the year 2018 the town of Taos celebrates the artists that abound working today all over Taos and Taos County. Artists are included from Taos Pueblo to Ranchos de Taos, young and old. Most importantly from the three cultures that are the building blocks of Taos, the Native American Tiwa People of Taos Pueblo, The Hispanic Community and the Anglos (a generic term) of all walks of life who have also made this tiny village their home.
The list and photographs begin from the northside of Taos starting at Hale Creek Road along Paseo del Pueblo Norte and end at 615 Paseo del Pueblo Sur. Many of the photographs that are posted here include easily recognizable landmarks of Taos in order to enable viewers to locate banners as easily as possible. Think of the "Taos is Art" banners as an outdoor art gallery and enjoy them all. If you take your own photographs and use Instagram or Facebook, please use hashtags of #VisitTaos #NewMexicoTrue and #TaosIsArt
All photographs included here have been taken by Robert Cafazzo, who has done his absolute best in attempting to show people where all 84 banners are located in order of appearance.
Mostly enjoy the broad range of Taos artists, if you wish to find out more about these amazingly talented artists there are links to most of their galleries and websites included here, (or go to https://taos.org/winners/)
Poster size Banners will be on display at Taos Town Hall through July 27, 2018, this exhibit it free and open to the public during regular Town Hall Hours.
I am thankful to all of the following people for their involvement: Ana Karina Armijo, Gina Azzari, Gak Stonn, Paul Figueroa, Alyson Hyder, Mitch Miller, Shemai Rodriguez, Sarah Hart, Darren Bond, all of the Taos Arts Council members, the Taos Public Works Department staff and the Town of Taos elected officials.
